Dorothy Julia Woods, age 77, of Tuscaloosa, died Dec. 19, 2011, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. A private memorial service will be held today at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frelin Hysaw and Tommie Sue Hysaw and her daughter, Karen Beres.
Survivors include her daughters, Donna Gerstenmaier of Vermont, Aida Deese of Tuscaloosa, Melissa Mosley of Tuscaloosa, and Belinda Stevens of Mobile; her sister, Ina Herring; her brothers, Douglas Hysaw and Ed Hysaw; and 11 loving grandchildren.
Dot loved her family and friends and had a compassion for animals. She had a passion for bowling and traveling. She lived each day to the fullest and had a joy for life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to T-Town Paws or The Humane Society of West Alabama.
