Fred Stanley Thornton

Fred Stanley Thornton, age 81, of Northport, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at DCH Regional Medical Center. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 11 AM at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor John Brooks officiating. A brief committal service will follow at Memory Hill Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Fred is preceded in death by his son, Darryl Thornton; parents, Fred S. Thornton and Hazel Poole Thornton; twin brothers, Barry and Larry Thornton.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Thornton; son, Terrill Thornton (Lindsay) of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Justin Thornton of Miami, FL, Logan Thornton of Birmingham, AL; brother, Danny G. Thornton (Nancy); numerous nieces and nephews.

Fred Stanley Thornton, age 81, went to his heavenly home on August 28, 2024. To his family and friends, he was known as Fred, Stanley, Pop, and Honey by his wife of 62 years. He spent over 37 years at BF Goodrich, holding many different positions. After retiring, he and his wife enjoyed traveling with friends. He was happiest when he was with his family. El Salvador was his passion, going on many mission trips, and enjoying the people there. He felt they were his brothers and sisters in Christ. He was an active deacon at Five Points Baptist Church, and a teacher in the Agape Sunday School Class.

Pallbearers will be Toby Lancaster, Todd Shirley, Derek Thornton, Austin Lancaster, Clint Cabiness and Ronnie Dockery. Honorary pallbearers are Brad Thornton and Andrew Bernard, a very special MICU Nurse.
