

She is preceded in death by her parents, Buster F. Hewett and Effie L. Hewett and brothers, James E. Hewett and Willie Jack Hewett.
She is survived by her spouse, Gene E. Freeman "Jimmy" of Tuscaloosa, AL; daughters, Sherre F. Walker (Stephen) and 3 step-daughters; son, Faron L. Freeman; sisters, Peggy Ann Altman (Larry), Janie Meaney (David), and Sharon Dean; brothers, Robert Taylor Hewett (Rita), Billy Hewett (Deroma), Tommy Hewett (Debbie), Mark Hewett, and Glen Hewett; grandchildren, Daniel A. Freeman, Casey W. Dunlap (Will), and 1 great-granddaughter, Daisy C. Dunlap.
In Gladys's early career, she worked for Gulf States Paper Corporation. Later in life, upon graduating the University of Alabama at the age of 47, Gladys entered the real estate business and began her career as a homebuilder along with her husband. She was the founder and president of Freeman Sheet Metal and Roofing Inc. where she worked for many years until her retirement. Throughout her career she also operated Two Oaks Farm where she dedicated her passion to her Peruvian Paso horses and friend community. She touched many lives and will be missed by many.
Pallbearers are Geary Hewett, Robert Hewett, Tommy Hewett, Donald Hewett, Dennis Hewett, and Will Dunlap.
Honorary pallbearers are medical staff of UAB, Hospice of West Alabama, and Oak Grove Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 2nd, 2023 at 10 A.M. at Oak Grove Baptist Church
located at 14415 S Rosser Rd, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405.
