

Grace Evelyn Hughes Dockery Case, died March 8, 2015 at the age of 90. She was born on August 14, 1924 to the late B. B. Hughes, Sr. and Irene Hamner Hughes. She grew up in Northport and graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School in1942. Grace married Edward Burrell Dockery soon after and they moved to Pascagoula, Miss. where Ed worked at Engel Shipyard during World War II. After returning home, they settled in Tuscaloosa to raise their family.Grace and Ed were active members of Forest Lake Baptist Church where Grace was involved in mission's organizations, sang in the choir and taught children's and youth groups. She made sure her children were involved in all the church activities. Grace also believed in meals at home around the table and these provided great memories for her children.Grace worked as the first drive-in teller in Tuscaloosa at the First National Bank downtown location then later moved to Parkview when that branch opened. She was an original member and officer in the Capstone Civitans. Grace and Ed late joined First Baptist Church where she continued to be active in the choir, taught college age Sunday school, was the Women's Missionary Union director, and was a member of the Lydia Sunday School Class.After her beloved Ed's death in 1986 after 44 years of marriage, she became active in the LLL group at First Baptist. In 1993 she married Raymond Case. They were married 5 years until his death.Grace was predeceased by all her siblings, W. C. Hughes, B. B. Hughes, Jr., Irene Hughes Abt, and Martha Hughes Jackson; her husband and father of her four children, Ed Dockery; her husband, Raymond Case; her precious grandson, Edward Burrell (Trey) Dockery, III; and her son-in-law, James Leigh Gray.She is survived by her four children, Edward Burrell (Rusty) Dockery, Jr. and wife, Vickie; Donna Dockery Gray; Thomas C "Tommy" Dockery, Sherry Dockery Bonner and husband, Curtis; her grandchildren; Tyler Dockery Savage (John), Rachel Dockery, Raleigh Gray Macoy (Mark), Matt Gray (Valerie), Todd Dockery (Amy), Erin Dockery Canterbury (Michael), and Trevor Bonner; 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.She was a beautiful lady who was loved by her family and friends who called her "Mom Grace'' and "Mama Grace''. Grace loved family reunions and instilled her love of Jesus to her family and that love continually shined through her life. We know she is in heaven now where a great reunion awaited her.Grace spent the last four years of her life at Capstone Village Traditions Way. The family thanks all the caregivers for their excellent treatment and loving attention to her. We wish we could list each of you by name - you all are dear to us.Pallbearers will be Todd Dockery, Matt Gray, Trevor Bonner, Carson Dockery, Michael Canterbury, Mark Macoy, John Savage, and David Nelson. Honorary pallbearers are Mary and Paul Nelson, Buna and Buddy Woodruff, the Lydia Sunday School Class, and staff of Capstone Village Traditions Way.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 721 Greensboro Ave, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401 (designated for missions) or to Capstone Village Traditions Way, 515 Roger Sayers Drive, Tuscaloosa, AL, 35401, Attention: Veranda Melton.Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2015, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Wilson officiating and Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will immediately follow the service at the church.
