

With profound reverence and a sense of loss, we bid farewell to a beloved soul who dedicated her life to serving God, her family, and her community. Hazel M. Fields (1934-2024) of Northport peacefully departed this world March 15 at the age of 89, embraced by the warmth of her home and the loving presence of her family, and leaving behind a legacy of unwavering faith, boundless love, and selfless devotion.
A celebration of Hazel's life will be held at First Church of the Nazarene, located at 241 Patriot Parkway in Tuscaloosa on Tuesday, March 19 at 11:00 AM. The Officiating Minister will be Rev. William Holley, with Rev. Mark Aills, Rev. Wesley Anderson, Rev. James Walker, and Rev. Kenneth Wyatt assisting. A family graveside service will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be Monday, March 18 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the church where friends and loved ones will gather to honor her memory, share stories, and find solace in each other's embrace.
Pallbearers will be Josh Peacock, Wesley Anderson, Allen Averette, Donny Carruth, Roger Torbert, and Wesley McIntyre. Honorary Pallbearers will be Church Families of Tuscaloosa First Church of Nazarene and Holten Heights Church of the Nazarene, Pastors and Congregations of the Central Gulf Coast Churches of the Nazarene, Jane and Willis Reynolds, Vickie White, Dr. Kevin Katona, Oasis Hospice, Latisha Watson, Shayna Roddy, Joan Watts, Cheryl Watts, Travis and Barbara Marshall, and Renee Averette.
Hazel was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Rev. George W. Fields, parents Mitchell and Minnie Moore, sisters Irene Hunnicutt (Nathan), Vivian Jenkins (Nathan), and Nell Calhoun (Wallace).
Survivors include her daughters , Evelyn Melton (Gabriel) of Childersburg, and Paula Peacock (Mike) of Duncanville; son, Randall Fields of Huntsville; sister, Annette Isley of Northport; grandchildren, Melanie McIntyre, Candice Anderson (Wesley), Josh Peacock (Laura); step grandchildren, Matt Melton, Marcus Melton (Lee Ann), Maggie Bell (Kevin); 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Throughout her journey, Hazel exemplified the true essence of Christian faith, embodying compassion, kindness, and humility in all that she did. Her commitment to God's teachings guided her path, illuminating the lives of those around her with the light of her spirit.
As a devoted pastor's spouse within the Churches of the Nazarene, Hazel was a steadfast source of support, strength, and inspiration to her husband and their congregations. Her faith, coupled with her exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, made her an invaluable asset to the church community, touching countless lives with her compassion and grace.
In her professional endeavors, Hazel's dedication and proficiency shone brightly during her 30-year career in bookkeeping at Partlow Developmental Center. Her meticulous approach and integrity earned her respect and admiration among her colleagues. Even in retirement, Hazel continued to selflessly devote her time and energy to others as a volunteer at DCH Regional Medical Center.
Among her greatest joys in life were her children and grandchildren, whom she cherished with all her heart. Their love and happiness brought her immeasurable pride and fulfillment, serving as a testament to the depth of her maternal love and devotion. Hazel was a shining example of love and devotion within her family. With boundless affection, she made each member feel uniquely cherished, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her. Her home was not only a place of comfort and warmth but also a sanctuary where laughter and joy abounded, especially during the countless meals she lovingly prepared for family and friends.
In the face of numerous health challenges in recent years, Hazel demonstrated remarkable resilience, courage, and faith. Her journey was a testament to the power of grace and the enduring strength of the human spirit, inspiring all who knew her to face life's trials with courage and dignity.
Hazel lived a life devoted to prayer and service to others, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire and uplift for generations to come. Though she may be gone from our sight, her spirit will forever dwell in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
As we mourn the loss of Hazel, may we find comfort in the knowledge that she now rests in eternal peace, reunited with her Creator, and surrounded by the boundless love of those who have gone before her.
