

Helen Brett Griffin, age 82, of Tuscaloosa, died March 5, 2012, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Ron McKay officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, James Griffin; her parents, John Brett and Lyda Grant; her sister, Doris McCurdy; and her nephew, George Strong.
Survivors include her daughters, Pam Griffin and Kathy Seale (Tommy); her sister, Barbara Parr (Frank); her grandchildren, Jason Seale and Haley Seale; her great-grandchildren, Katelyn Seale and Addison Seale; and her loving companion, “Chloe”.
Helen graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Early Childhood Development. She retired from the Department of Pensions and Security. She loved to sew, read, travel, go to the beach, watch Alabama football, and spend time with family and friends. She loved being a “Nannie”. She spent a lot of time with her special four-legged baby, “Chloe”. Helen was a loving and caring wife, mother, sister, aunt, “Nannie”, and friend. She will truly be missed.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Seale, Jason Seale, Henry Strong, Jerry Johnston, Wayne Hoggle, and Jimmy Burkhalter.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. John Dubay, Vicki May and all DCH Cancer Center staff, Hospice of West Alabama and special caregivers LaTanya Cottingham and Charlene Ellis, and neighborhood friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama or Trinity United Methodist Church.
