

Jamie Whitby Anderson, known to her loved ones as Jan, passed away on August 18, 2025. Born on
December 15, 1947, Jan was a steadfast and loving presence, the heart of her family, and a devoted
member of her community.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Allen “Jim” Anderson (2022); her son, Michael Allen Anderson (2020); her parents, Walter M. Whitby and Jamie Lee Whitby; and her sisters, Pam Chapman and Martha Danley. She is survived by her sons, Paul Oliver Anderson and James Eric Anderson (wife Katie); her cherished grandchildren, Ella Katherine Anderson and James Andrew Anderson; and her siblings, Marshall Whitby and Toni Watermeier.
Jan graduated from Memphis University and dedicated 25 years to teaching high school students English
and French before managing the family forestry business. While her husband and sons oversaw forestry
management and harvesting operations, Jan oversaw the office operations, keeping the business running
smoothly and supporting her family with her steadfast dedication. Her life was centered on her family and
community, providing love, guidance, and unwavering support that touched everyone around her.
A lover of the outdoors, Jan treasured mornings on her back deck, overlooking the pond, with a cup of
coffee in hand. She also shared in her family’s passion for nature and hunting, encouraging and supporting her husband and sons in their pursuits.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, 5200 Old Birmingham Highway, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404. Following visitation, a graveside service will be held at 1:15 p.m. at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park, 5434 Old Birmingham Highway, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404, with Reverend Paul Pradat, Rector, officiating.
Jan’s legacy of love, dedication, and steadfast devotion to her family and community will be remembered by
all who knew her.
