

Janet Mary Champagne Hinson, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 16, 2024, at the West Alabama Hospice Facility. Born in Louisiana, Janet moved to Tuscaloosa early in her childhood, where she spent the remainder of her life.
Janet was happily married twice. Her first marriage was to Gurney Lackey, who predeceased her in 1963. She later married Paul Ziegler Hinson, who also preceded her in death. Together with Paul, Janet enjoyed a vibrant life on their farm in Greenville, Alabama. The couple loved to travel in their travel trailers and made many lifelong friends along the way.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, LM and Anna Champagne; her first husband, Gurney Lackey; her second husband, Paul Ziegler Hinson; her two sons, Michael Jene Lackey and Gurney Lackey Jr.; her sister, Ethel Cushman; her brother, Larry Champagne; and her great-great-grandchild, Laney Greene.
She is survived by her sister, Nira Champagne; her grandchildren, Shaun Lackey (Kay), Allyson Glen (Mark), Anna Lee Lackey, and Cody Lackey; her stepchildren, Andy Hinson (Glenda) and Brantley Hinson and their children; as well as great-grandchild, Landon Lackey and numerous other great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved deeply.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Crimson Village for their compassionate care, the nurses at West Alabama Hospice for their respectful treatment, and Dr. Lee Thomas for his years of dedicated care and presence at Janet's side during her final moments.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to West Alabama Hospice in Janet's memory.
Janet will be remembered fondly for her vibrant spirit, her love for travel, and the deep affection she held for her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
