

Janette Ashcraft Bobitt, age 89, of Tuscaloosa, died May 16, 2013, at home surrounded by family. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Garner officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Eura Ashcraft; her brother, Linwood Ashcraft; and her sister, Hazel Wallace.
Survivors include her husband and the love of her life, Thomas Delbert Bobitt; her children, Belinda and Johnny Stough and Thomas and Jennifer Bobitt; her sisters, Erma Weathers of Columbus, Miss. and Sara La Prade of Tupelo, Miss.; her sister-in-law, Margine Ashcraft; her grandchildren, Clint and Laura Stough, Cassie and Will McCafferty, Blake and Abbey Bobitt, and Braxton Bobitt; her great-grandchildren, Grayson McCafferty, Audrey McCafferty, and Hanson Bobitt; and special friends, Merlene Tunnell, Lorene Sanders, and Marie Gann.
She was born in Pickens County and later moved to Columbus, Miss. She was a graduate of New Hope High School and later the Druid City Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. She worked at the VA Hospital in the Medical/Surgical Unit until retirement. She was a longtime member of South Highland Baptist Church where she taught 5th Grade Sunday School. Nana, as she was known to all who loved her, was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She and the love of her life celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in January. Nana was a true prayer warrior and lived her faith in her Lord and Savior.
Pallbearers will be Doug Bobitt, Will McCafferty, Clint Stough, Richard Smith, Glenn Holsomback, and Buddy McCullough.
Honorary pallbearers are former members of South Highlands Baptist Church and former employees of the VA Hospital.
