
Joe Neil Pierce, age 75, of Cottondale, went to his home in Heaven on May 20, 2014 at Hospice of West Alabama surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Smith, Rev. John Dickinson and Mike NeSmith officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ellen Lynn Pierce; his parents; a sister and two brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Pierce; his daughter, Amy Mahurin (James); his grandchildren, Emily Dickinson (Matthew), Jessica Mahurin and Eric Mahurin; his great-granddaughter, his precious angel Lilly Elizabeth Dickinson (he was anxiously awaiting her birth in July); his siblings, Hazel, Pete, Kenneth and John; and many additional family members and friends; and his furr babies, Gizmo and Si.
Joe was well known for his work as a sheet rock finisher where he devoted 41 years. He loved the outdoors especially working in his garden and fishing. He loved people especially children; he never met a stranger.
Pallbearers will be Timmy Pierce, Mike Whitehead, Roger NeSmith, Billy Gene Pierce, Ray Andrews and Tommy Hyche.
Honorary Pallbearers are the nurses and staff of Hospice of West Alabama, Dr. Larry Skelton and staff, Dr. Pam Hughes, Melissa Harvey, Josh Robinson, Jerry and Anita Adam, Bert Odum, members of Alberta Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa County School Transportation Dept., and friends of the Cottondale Community.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama in memory of Joe.
