

John Fullard Dorough, age 77 of Tuscaloosa, AL went to be with Jesus on December 22, 2021. Johnny was born on April 08, 1944 to the late Woodrow and Mary Sue Dorough. He was married to Cynthia Bradley Dorough for 22 ½ wonderful years. In addition to his wife he is survived by his son, Darrick (Mary) Dorough, two grandchildren: Trisha Grace Dorough and Tristen Dorough; sister Peggy (Steve) Pattison; niece Susan Pattison; grand-niece Lauren Pattison, all of Trussville, AL. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Craig (Lisa) Bradley and their children Justin (Cady) Bradley and Kayla Bradley and sister-in-law Miriam (Chris) McGee.
Johnny grew up in Frisco City, Monroe County, Alabama on a small farm. He was a typical little boy that loved all things outdoors. He graduated from the Frisco City School System where he played all sports and was given the nickname “Golden Toe.” After high school he entered the US Air Force on July 11, 1963 and was sent to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. He was stationed in Altus, OK as an Airman 3rd Class. After serving a year, he was honorably discharged due to the sickness of his father. He was employed by Vanity Fair in Monroeville until he moved to Tuscaloosa to attend the University of Alabama. At the U of A he was a (walk-on) with the football program and later received a full scholarship. He also played baseball to stay in shape. He graduated from U of A with a degree in Business Administration. In 1982 he joined the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy and remained there for 24 ½ years, until his retirement in 2006. After his retirement, he continued to serve as a Security Officer at the Tuscaloosa County Courthouse until 2020.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother and Paw Paw. A quiet, simple and generous man who loved the Lord and his family. A true gentleman. He was an avid golfer and Alabama Sports fan.
Serving as Active Pallbearers will be Craig Bradley, Chris McGee, Justin Bradley, Pleas Davis, Mike Sadberry, Ronnie Anders and Kenny Fountain. The family wishes to recognize the Employees of the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Department, Members of Pleas Davis Sunday School Class, First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa and Members of Tall Pines Golf Club as Honorary Pallbearers. Special thanks to Dr. John Miller and the Nurses and Staff of Hospice of West Alabama, Dr. John Summerford and Staff, Cardiology Consultants Staff and Physicians and his Physician and Friend, Dr. William Hill.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Johnny Dorough’s honor to: Hospice of West Alabama, Tuscaloosa Christian School Building Fund or First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa, 721 Project.
A visitation will be held Sunday, December 26, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, 2200 Skyland Blvd. E., Tuscaloosa, AL. Following the visitation a Graveside Service, with Honors, will be held at 2:00 PM at Memory Hill Gardens, Garden of Prayer. Services will be officiated by Bro. Joe Armour and under the Direction of Memory Chapel, a Dignity Memorial provider.
