

Dr. John “Johnny” Mikul Mitchell passed away peacefully in his sleep at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on June 11, 2023. Funeral arrangements are being held by Memory Chapel Funeral Home. Visitation and services will be held on June 15, 2023 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Tuscaloosa with the rosary at 12:30 PM, visitation beginning at 1:00 PM and the service following at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provide, directing. Father Tom Ackerman will be officiating the service. Johnny was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on May 31, 1935. He was married to the “little girl down the street”, Virginia Tucker for 49 years. He became a dentist and joined the Air Force. He opened his dentistry practice in Alberta in 1962 and continued the practice until his retirement in 2006. “Doc” was regarded by many as a strong man who was hard-working and loyal to his
family and friends. Family and friends were Johnny’s passion and delight. He was a great support for his children and grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and he will be missed greatly. Johnny is survived by his sister, MaryAnne Cummings, his sons, Mike Mitchell (Shell), Steve Mitchell (Dana), and Mark Mitchell (Lisa). “Poppies” is also survived by his grandchildren, Peter Mitchell, Karla Moore, Amy Tunnell, Jessica Tucker, Anna Nicholson, Justin Mitchell, Evan Mitchell and Samantha Walker. Great-grandchildren include, John Miller Moore, Tucker Ryan Tunnell, Mack Riley Tunnell, Allie Judith Mitchell, Carson Mikul Mitchell, Laurie Ann Tucker, and Jack Mitchell Tucker. Johnny is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Tucker Mitchell, his sister, Frances Hamner, his brother, David Mitchell, his sons, Jeffrey Mitchell and Phillip Mitchell. Pallbearers will be his sons, Steve Mitchell, Mike Mitchell, Mark Mitchell,
grandsons, Peter Mitchell, Justin Mitchell, and Evan Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers are Sue Cannon, Hospice of West Alabama, Holy Spirit Catholic Church, and the “Supper Club”. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of West Alabama or Holy Spirit School.
