

L.V. Barger, age 84, of Brookwood, died Jan. 22, 2012, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Tony Boyd officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Houston and Sally Barger; brothers, Stancel, Melvin, Henry, J.T., and Hussie; and sisters, Annibelle Beard, Lonnie Hyche, Mayon, and R.C.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Howell Barger; sons, Sidney Barger (Sharon) and Gayland Barger (Jo Ann); sisters, Sue Boyd (Melvin), Charlotte Craft, Pearl Quinn, Ethel Herring, and Zeiler Englebert (Ed); grandchildren, Doug Barger, Joe Barger (Alexa), Travis Barger (Sarah), and Tracy Hinton (Jeff); 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend to all he knew. He served in World War II and returned home to find the love of his life, Mildred Howell. They married July 28, 1947, to start his family. He worked hard to provide a good life for his family. He leaves behind a legacy that we will always hold deep in our heart.
Pallbearers will be Joe Steele, Deward Barger, Dennis McCullough, Rosee Boyd, Daryl Essary, and Steve Quinn.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Ross Vaughn; medical staff of ICU 3rd floor – Anthony; 6th floor staff – Angela and Claire; Brookwood Oil Field Service; and friends of the Brookwood and Searles communities.
