His legacy will also be remembered by his nieces, nephews, cousins and great friends and co-workers. Lamar was born in Cullman; the eldest of 5 children and learned at an early age the meaning of hard work, integrity, honesty and perseverance. He worked for Gulf/Chevron Oil Company for 25 years.
In November 1986, he purchased Speedway Oil Company in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He changed the name to Speedmart Food Stores and Chatham Oil Company. He also owned and operated 3 Hardees locations and 2 Cold Stone Ice Cream Stores. A fearless and true friend; wise, loving and kind are just a few of his many attributes. To know him was to love him. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand. Psalm 37:23-24. Love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy; does not boast. Love is not proud; it does not dishonor others. Love is not self seeking nor easily angered. Love keeps no record of wrongs and does not delight in evil. Love rejoices with the truth and always protects. Love always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. Corinthians 13: 4-8.
Pallbearers are Joshua Campbell, Eric Johnson, Gavin and Cooper Johnson, and Kerry and Darrin Chatham.
Honorary pallbearers are all former employees of Speedmart, Chatham Oil, Hardee's and Coldstone Creameries. Special thanks to Margaret Ford and Leah Hallman for taking such great care of him through the years.
