

Larry Dawson Stewart, 65, of Tuscaloosa, Ala. went to be with the Lord Sept. 28, 2014 following his courageous eight year battle with ALS. Services will be 12 noon, Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, 2200 Skyland Blvd E, Tuscaloosa, Ala., with Herb Thomas of Circlewood Baptist Church and Larry Corder of Alberta Baptist Church officiating and Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be Thursday one hour prior to services at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Dawson Stewart and Mary Nell Stewart. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years and high school sweetheart, Theresa Holcomb Stewart; two daughters, Heather Stewart LeCompte (Kevin) and Shelly Stewart Smith (Jason); five grandchildren, Walker LeCompte, Charlie LeCompte, Stella LeCompte, Kate Smith and Ryan Smith, all from Atlanta, Ga.; and his brother, Les Stewart and wife, Mary. Larry was loved and respected by his wife, daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren. He was a role model in their lives as a devoted, Christian, loving father, and grandfather (Daw Daw). Larry had a smile that was contagious and woke up every day eager to follow the Lord. His legacy and all the lives he touched will carry on through his friends and family. He was a graduate of Tuscaloosa High School Class of 1967, The University of Alabama Class of 1971. He served in The United States Army as a First Lieutenant in the First Battalion 13th Armor. Larry was a Deacon at Highland Baptist Church, in Meridian, Miss. and an active member of Circlewood Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa. Larry was employed by Willcutt Block and Supply Company in management for 35 years. His favorite pastimes were hunting with his brother, coaching his girls' softball teams, watching Alabama football, and spending time with his family. Larry was a special part of our lives and will be missed so very much. Pallbearers will be Les Stewart, Kevin LeCompte, Jason Smith, Chris Crutchfield, Dennis Hoggle, Bob Pigford, Darius Hatchett and Don Litchfield. Honorary pallbearers are Randy and Billy Stewart, Hal Willcutt, Mickey Gavin, Rick Snowden, Coach Royce Patterson, Donny Mathis, Tim Snowden, and Jack Douglas, Jerry McCay, Sam Holdsombeck and Billy Fields. We would like to say a special thanks to our friends at Circlewood Baptist Church, Alberta Baptist Church, Highland Baptist Church, and Able Hands Nursing Care (Cedric Stewart, Diana Hamilton, Floyd Sealy, Joe Bell); his caregiver George Sylvester, Dr. Gwenlynn Claussen and staff at Kirklin Clinic of Birmingham, Ala., Dr. Nichani and staff at the VA Hospital of Tuscaloosa, faculty and staff at Arcadia Elementary School ,Popular Springs Elementary School, Wilcutt Block Company, family and friends in Meridian.
