Larry "Jeff" Walker Jr., age 67, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at home. He was born on August 29, 1957, in Tuscaloosa, to parents Larry and Shirley Walker. Over the years, he became “Grandpaw” to many who knew and loved him, extending far beyond his family. Jeff graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1975 and attended Brewer State Community College, where he studied business and accounting. He proudly worked with his Dad at HASCO, their heating and air-conditioning business in Tuscaloosa, for many years until its closing. He went on to work in logistics with the Tuscaloosa Fire Department. Since his retirement, he had dedicated his life to serving his community and caring for his mother. Jeff was responsible for helping bring Miracle League Baseball to Tuscaloosa to ensure children and adults with disabilities have an opportunity to play baseball in West Alabama. In 2023, Jeff and family founded the Hunter Whitley Butterfly Initiative to promote Veterans’ mental health awareness, working diligently to advocate for the needs and services of Veterans. He loved music and often said singing and playing his guitar was his therapy. Grandpaw never met a stranger. A strong voice in our community, he remained active in caring for his mother, advocating for Veterans, and offering help to anyone in need until his very last day. In Grandpaw’s memory, please keep his legacy alive by sharing a smile with someone and enjoying conversation, coffee, and great music with your friends. But most of all, be a help, a listening ear, and a light to those in need.
A Graveside Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, 2025 at Memory Hill Gardens with Pastor Randy Beard officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Memory Chapel Funeral Home.
