Lee Dois Armstrong married Joan Allene Armstrong on Aug 31,1962. They had 3 children and shared 61 wonderful years together until she passed away in Dec 2023. He loved his family and his favorite activities were fishing and being in church.
On Easter Sunday,1964, he made a life-changing choice - He accepted Jesus as Lord of his life. And on Easter Sunday 2025 he went to be with Jesus during Sunday morning service. What a Resurrection Morning he had.
Around 1966 he accepted the call into the ministry to preach God’s word– that calling guided him and his family for the rest of His life. In the late 1960’s he accepted a position as Pastor at Higdon Church of God in Kennedy, AL. From there his ministry took him to Souls Haven Church of God, in MS - then in 1979-1981 to Faith Temple Church in Temple TX. After moving back to MS from Tx, he evangelized for a couple of years – then in 1983 he returned to Higdon Church of God in Kennedy, AL and was Pastor there until 2009 when he retired. However – retirement wasn’t for him -- he evangelized for a short time but he had a Pastor’s heart and In 2013 he took the position as Pastor of Fellowship Temple Assembly of God, Berry AL where he was currently the Pastor at the time of his homegoing.
He was mostly known as – “Bro. Armstrong” - and if you ask most of his congregations to describe him I believe their first word would be FAITHFUL -he was faithful, to his family, to his church, to his job, and most of All to God. He was dedicated -(First one to church – last one to leave). On Tuesday (before having a Heart attack and stroke on April 4), He spent his day out visiting the sick people that had missed church. His desire was to reach hurting people and help them change their lives the way his life was changed.
The other description that I hear often – is that he was a walking Bible. He could quote Chapters of the Bible not just verses but the whole Chapter. Many times I called and ask him where to find a certain Scripture and he could tell me right off the top of his head what book and chapter to go to. He woke up early every day to read his Bible before work or before he started his day and he always ended his day in prayer. He told our church that he tried to call out all his family and church members before the Lord each night.
He mentored and ordained several young men that are now Preaching the Gospel, including his own Two sons. His work continues through the lives of those he touched.
He loved like Jesus - unconditionally.
2 Tim 4:7-8 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day and not to me only – but unto all them also that love his appearing –
He has finished his race - FAITHFUL till the end!!
In his last Sunday message he quoted lyrics from the Hymn – Higher Ground - Lord, lift me up and let me stand, By faith, on Heaven's table land; A higher plane than I have found; Lord, plant my feet on higher ground. Today he’s on higher ground Then on Wed night service he spoke from Psalm 91 – In the Shadow of the Almighty- He read the 4th verse about being covered under his wings and He told us he wished he could just wrap his bony arms around us and fly off to heaven. I believe that was his heart’s desire to go be with Jesus and Mom.
If he would have us to say anything – He would want us to ask – Do you know Jesus as Lord of your life? Are you preparing for his appearing?
Pallbearers will be Justin Armstrong, Ethan Armstrong, Justin Crawford, Jayden Armstrong, Tyler Armstrong, Chace Traweek, Dallas Thompson, William Guerrero and Jake Harris.
