Lenora Mabeline Gentry Gardner of Tuscaloosa, AL, was born in Lawley, AL on December 2, 1935, and departed from this life on April 25, 2024. She peacefully went to her eternal home, leaving behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and cherished memories. She lived and died as a Christian. She was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend whose kindness and love touched the lives of many.
Mabeline, as she was known by her friends, was preceded in death by an infant child and her beloved husband Prentiss Gardner, her parents Earl Partrick Gentry and Lier Mae Boggs Gentry, her brother Will (Buck) Gentry, her sister Lonnie Gentry Ingram, her nephew Timothy Allen Gardner, and her great-nephew Dylan Cole Gardner. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews.
Mabeline was recruited from high school to work for the Bibb County Road Department. She moved to work for the Tuscaloosa County Road Department, and then the Alabama Department of Transportation which she retired from with 35 years of service. She was an engineer and designed many of the roads and interchanges in this area. Her commitment to her work was matched only by her devotion to her faith.
Mabeline was a charter member of the Tuscaloosa Bible Methodist Church, where she served faithfully. She found joy in playing the organ for her church and was actively involved in the missions society, demonstrating her dedication to serving God and others.
Mabeline cherished her family and Faith Bible Church family, capturing many memories through photography. She found immense joy in caring for her flowers and collecting pictures of them, as well. She and Prentiss created wonderful memories during family trips with their nieces and nephews when they were young.
In honoring Mabeline’s life, we remember her as a woman of unwavering faith, love, and dedication. As she has received her eternal reward, let us take solace in the knowledge that she is with her Savior and reunited with her loved ones who have gone before her.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Memory Chapel Funeral Home on Skyland Blvd. in Tuscaloosa. Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 2 beginning at 10:00 AM, with the service following at 11:00 AM. The service will be officiated by Pastor Bob Blankenship. Pallbearers will be Keith Marlar, Kevin Marlar, Mason Turner, Allen Banks, Tommy Banks and Ted Jackson. Following the service, Mabeline will be laid to rest at Memory Hill Gardens.
