Lizzie Jewel Phillips, age 87, of Vance, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 26, 2025. Born in Woodstock, Alabama, on February 13, 1938, she was the daughter of Woodrow and Minnie Davis. Growing up as one of eleven children, Lizzie developed a resilient and nurturing spirit that would define her entire life.
Lizzie spent many years as a dedicated military wife, raising four boys with strength and grace. Later in life, she found a beautiful new chapter when she married George Phillips. Together, they realized a long-held dream by building their farm home in Vance, a sanctuary where she could focus on her passions. A woman of deep faith, Lizzie was a gifted creator who found joy in the simple things: tending her garden, quilting, sewing, and filling her home with the aroma of fresh-baked bread.
Lizzie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Phillips; her son, Richard Oyler; her sisters, Louise, Cathy, and Joyce; and her brothers, Wood and Danny Davis.
Her legacy of love and strength is carried on by her surviving family: sons, David, Donald and Billy Oyler; sister, Myra Davis; brothers, Gene Davis, Jim Davis, Norman Davis, and Mark Davis; grandchildren, Angie and Rachel Oyler; and great-grandchildren, Kendalle Ahern and Atlas Gladden.
A memorial service will be held at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, located at 2200 Skyland Blvd East, Tuscaloosa, Ala. The service is scheduled for January 31, 2026, at 2:00 pm.
