Martha Wallace McAlister

NORTHPORT—Martha Wallace McAlister, age 85, passed away June 15, 2020 at Park Manor Health and Rehabilitation. Graveside services will be 2 pm Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Piedmont Memory Gardens in Piedmont, Ala., with Minister Dean Beard and Bill Cook officiating, and Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial provider, directing.

Mrs. McAlister was preceded in death by her husband, H. Damon McAlister; son, Justin Keith McAlister; parents, George W. and Eunice Sanford Wallace; and sisters, Clara Davis, Lovena Hendon, and Judy Cook.

She is survived by her daughter, Kayron M. Barnett (Daryl); brother, George Arlin Wallace (Betty); grandchildren, Justin McAlister, Jared McAlister, Kory Berry (Carolyn), Hannah-Claire Berry, and Mattie Berry; and great-grandchildren, Ally, Bryn, and Cara Berry.

Martha was born in 1934 in Cherokee County. In 1952, she married Damon McAlister. They had two children, Justin Keith and Jana Kayron. She owned and operated a shoe store in Piedmont where she worked until retirement. They then moved to Montgomery to be closer to Keith, and she worked ten more years at Belk (in the shoe department). After Keith’s death, they moved to Northport to be closer to Kayron. She suffered from Alzheimer’s the past five years. She was a member of the Church of Christ her whole life.

Pallbearers will be Kory Berry, Justin McAlister, Alan Wallace, and Jared McAlister.

Honorary pallbearer is Tim Davis.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
