

Our dear mother and grandmother Mary Ellen Cooper Falls transitioned peacefully on Thursday, September 14, 2023 after an extended period of illness. Mary lived a full and very active busy life until she became ill in April 2021. Mary was such a fun-loving, kind, and considerate woman who enjoyed life to the fullest and she will be greatly missed.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Willie Dee and Amy Jewel Cooper; husband, Manly S. Falls; siblings, Willie Jewel Crawford, Sherman Cooper, James Cooper, and Charles Cooper; daughter, Angela Falls Madison; and granddaughter, Kayton Miranda Madison.
She is survived by her special friend and loved one Donald Lankford, daughter, Judy Falls Moore (Jerry),and son, Gene Falls (Margie). Mary also leaves behind her grandchildren whom she adored: Lyndsey Falls Stephens (Jason);Hannah Falls Johnston (Stephen); Jackson Moore (Katie); MaryAlelia Madison; Joni Moore; Catherine Moore Morris (Josh); and Emily Moore Miller (Ryan). Mary was fortunate enough to have loving great grandchildren as well: Carley and Collin Stephens; Asher Johnston; Jacob Morris; Molly Epps; and Harper and Molly Miller. Mary also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and close friends who were very important to her.
Mary was born and raised in Tuscaloosa, AL on December 7, 1932 where she resided for many years before moving to Northport, AL for the last 24 years of her life. She graduated from Holt High School and immediately began working in downtown Tuscaloosa in various businesses including Raymond’s Department Store, Bell Telephone Company, and First National Bank until she became employed by Reichhold Chemical Inc. as their receptionist/ switchboard operator where she eventually retired after 25 years. Mary juggled her career and family life quite well, and even found time to be actively involved at Alberta Baptist Church until she became too ill to serve. Friends and loved ones describe Mary as truly enjoying life and spreading love to everyone. She was such a loving mother and grandmother who made holidays and birthdays very special by dressing up as Mrs. Santa for her grandchildren on several occasions. Mary always enjoyed Alabama football season, U of A gymnastic meets, and loved to travel with Tuscaloosa’s Park and Recreation trips and many road trips with siblings and friends….Mary just had a lot of fun!
Pallbearers will be Jackson Moore, Jerry Moore, Jason Stephens, Stephen Johnston, Edward Cooper, and Richard Crawford.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Mary’s honor to Alberta Baptist Church. The family would like to extend our gratitude to Adoration Hospice (formally known as Oasis Healthcare Inc.) and to her sitters for the care and services they provided over the last two years.
A visitation for Mary will be held Monday, September 18, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, 2200 Skyland Blvd East, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405. Celebration of life will begin at 2:00 pm followed by a committal service at Memory Hill Gardens.
