Nancy Jacobs Davis, age 100, of Tuscaloosa, passed away on 4/21/26. Visitation will be held May 2 at 10:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM, both at Alberta Baptist Church, 2210 University Blvd. Burial follows at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Spurgeon Davis; her parents, James Murray and Minnie Pearl Jacobs; her brothers, Paul (died in WWII), Leonard (Wanda), and James (Christine) Jacobs; and her sister, Minnie Falls McElory.
She is survived by her son, Richard (Wendy) Davis; her daughter, Kathy (Randall) Alexander; her granddaughters, Amber (Adam) Forsee, April Alexander (Andrew) Budker, and Amy Alexander (Michael) Bond; her great-granddaughters, Kaylan and Kirsten Effner; and her great-grandson, Benjamin Davis Bond.
Nancy grew up in Ralph, Alabama, and graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School in 1945. In October of that year, she began working at First National Bank of Tuscaloosa, where she met a customer, Spurgeon Davis, who soon became her husband of 66 years. Before her children were born, she worked at Tuscaloosa Furniture Company and Birmingham Trust Credit Union. She considered her most important roles to be those of wife, mother, and homemaker.
After her children were grown, Nancy worked for nearly 20 years as an administrative secretary for the Tuscaloosa Juvenile Court, retiring in 1992. She formed lasting connections with many of the young people she met there and stayed in touch with several of them over the years. She used an iPhone to stay in touch with her children and grandchildren thru video chats, texts and pictures. In March on the last Sunday she could attend, Alberta Baptist Church recognized her as their oldest member. She loved singing in the choir and attending her Love Sunday School Class.
Nancy enjoyed baking, sewing, and gardening, and her family and friends were grateful beneficiaries of her talents. Though known for her gracious Southern hospitality—welcoming visitors with homemade rolls and their favorite from-scratch desserts, she avoided the spotlight. She showed her love quietly and consistently through tireless service. She devoted her life to serving God and her family.
A devoted fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide, she and Spurgeon held season tickets, later enjoying the football games from home. Her 100th birthday celebration had to be scheduled around a game so she wouldn’t miss watching the Tide roll.
A special thanks to Charlotte and Mike Elledge, Jim and Deb Steadman, Ruth Shores and Tyler Fair for their loving care and special devotio
