Susan Tunnell Valdez

TUSCALOOSA | Susan Tunnell Valdez, age 55, of Tuscaloosa, died July 30, 2015, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, August 2, 2015, at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Neal Bruce officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be Saturday, August 1, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Tunnell; and father, Len Swaffield.

Survivors include her husband, Pedro Valdez of Tuscaloosa; daughters, Stephanie Jones (Josh) of Duncanville, Ala., Ana Valdez of Tuscaloosa and Jacie Valdez of Pensacola, Fla.; son, Steven Tunnell (Jennifer) of Irondale, Ala.; brother, Tom Swaffield (Pam) of Irondale, Ala.; parents, John and Joan Brewer of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and grandchildren, Madison Tunnell, Morgan Tunnell, MacKenzie Jones, Will Tunnell, Jackson Jones and Tucker Jones.

Susan was a 1978 Holt High School graduate. She was a friend to all and never met a stranger. In the short time that she was with us, she lived life to the fullest and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She fought a yearlong battle with cancer with the same determination and positivity that she lived her life by. She will be missed greatly.

Pallbearers will be Don Wood, Don Wilson, Butch Hughes, Clay Clark, Denny Schwartz, Ronald Tidwell, John Lee and Al Dalsing.

Honorary pallbearers are the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Hospice of West Alabama and Quality Sorting Services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama.
