On July 1, 2025, the world lost a remarkable man, but Heaven gained a faithful servant. Terry Anderson Meggs, 75, of Northport, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Hospice of West Alabama, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and dedication.
Born on February 19, 1950, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Terry was the son of the late Howard and Miriam Meggs. He dedicated 42 years to the banking industry, retiring from First United Security, where he served his community with integrity and commitment. He proudly served in the National Guard for six years, demonstrating his patriotism and devotion to his country.
Terry’s heart, however, belonged to his family. Married to Beverly, the love of his life, for 53 years, he was a steadfast partner and a proud father to Missy (husband Chris) Beck and Andy (wife Rachel) Meggs. His grandchildren—Kelsee (husband Trenton), Heath, Haleigh Beck, Brody Meggs, and Brayden Meggs—and great-grandchild Weston Heath brought him endless joy. He is also survived by his brother, Tony Meggs (Tollie) of Tuscaloosa, AL, and his sister, Martha Brasell of Dallas, TX; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Don Johnson of Memphis, TN; Ronnie and Ann Moorehead of Northport, AL; and Allen and Charlene Moorehead of Carrollton, AL; as well as many nieces and nephews and a community enriched by his presence. Terry’s hands were always busy, whether tending to his yard, crafting woodworking treasures, barbecuing with his secret sauce, or cheering for Alabama football.
A member of Capstone Church, Terry’s strong love for the Lord was evident to all who knew him. Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Miriam Meggs; his sister, Sandra Johnson; his niece, Karen Hudson; his brother-in-law, David Brasell; his mother-in-law, Edna Permenter of Aliceville, AL; his father-in-law, Horthal Moorehead of Aliceville, AL; his brother-in-law, Terry Moorehead of Aliceville, AL; and his stepfather-in-law, Mars Permenter of Aliceville, AL.
A celebration of Terry’s life will be held at Memory Chapel Funeral Home on Sunday, July 6, 2025, with visitation at 1:00 PM and service at 2:00 PM, led by Tollie Meggs, Jeremy Burrage, and Kevin Beck, followed by a graveside service.
Pallbearers include Tony Meggs, Chris Beck, Brody Meggs, Brayden Meggs, Trenton Heath, Billy Floyd, J.W. Arendale, and Richard Burge.
