William L. Cole Sr.

William "Bill" LaFayette Cole, Sr., age 97, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025. He lived a long and full life devoted to his family, faith, and passions. He deeply loved his wife, Betty Kilgo Cole, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Bill proudly served in the United States Army during both World War II and the Korean War, receiving an honorable discharge. Following his military service, he began a long career with South Central Bell, retiring after 30 years as a dedicated lineman. In his retirement, he worked at DCH Regional Medical Center in the gift shop and later owned and operated The Toy Train Station, a business born from his passion for collecting and restoring Lionel model trains.

He was a devoted member of Forest Lake United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where his faith and fellowship were an important part of his life.

He is survived by his children Sharon Sewell (Bill), William L. Cole, Jr. (LeAnn), and Rholinda Daly (Patrick); grandchildren Collin Sewell (Megan), Nicholus Sewell (Jamie), Marla Davis (Mike Plummer), Ashley Boyd, Kathryn Williamson (Kevin), and Keith Daly (Katie); 13 great-grandchildren; brother Harold Cole (Martha); sisters Jeanine Sellers (Jim) and Vicki Bleich (Amos); and sisters-in-law Dot Cole, Helen Cole, and Odeen Wren. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Kilgo Cole; his parents, Buster William Cole and Lois Ann Wilson; and his brothers, Dennis Cole and Joe Cole.

A military funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home (2200 Skyland Blvd East, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405).

Visitation: 12:30-1:30 p.m.

Graveside Service: 2:00 p.m.

Officiated by Larry Morrison.

Pallbearers will be Keith Daly, Will Davis, Mike Plummer, Collin Sewell, Nicholus Sewell, and Kevin Williamson.

Honorary pallbearers are the employees of Park Manor Health & Rehabilitation LLC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity in Bill's honor.
