

Barbara Andrews, born on July 16, 1935, in Waco, Texas, passed on June 29 at the age of 88. She leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories and a legacy of compassion, talent, and an unwavering zest for life that resonated deeply with all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Barbara's journey began in Waco, where she grew up in a rural farm community. She attended high school in Waco until the Cotton Belt Railroad brought the family to Tyler where she graduated from Tyler High and honed her intellect and passion for learning. Her academic pursuits led her to Tyler Junior College on a nursing school scholarship where she earned a degree as a registered nurse, laying the foundation for a distinguished 45-year career in nursing that touched countless lives.
As a registered nurse, Barbara's dedication and expertise were evident in the various disciplines she served, collaborating with respected professionals like Dr. Hascal Muntz in Tyler and later contributing her skills to prestigious cardiologists, ophthalmologists and OB-GYN practices in Houston. Her scientific prowess was remarkable, a testament to her innate abilities and relentless pursuit of knowledge in the medical field.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Barbara's creative spirit shone brightly. Possessing a keen eye for design and a natural talent for artistry, she delved into the world of floral arrangement and oil painting with unparalleled skill and passion. Her floral creations were a testament to her artistic sensibilities, characterized by meticulous attention to detail and a deep love for beauty.
A true entrepreneur at heart, Barbara was the visionary founder of Barbara's Florist, a business that allowed her to share her passion for floral artistry with the East Texas community. Her blend of business acumen and creative vision made her a respected figure in the floral industry, leaving an indelible mark on all those who encountered her work.
Barbara's insatiable curiosity and love for adventure knew no bounds. Her diverse hobbies and interests inspired those around her to embrace the richness and diversity of life. As a coach's wife, she immersed herself in the world of football, becoming a knowledgeable enthusiast of the game and relishing the excitement of each fall season. Her infectious passion for football, from local high school games to collegiate and professional matchups, brought joy and camaraderie to all who shared in her enthusiasm.
Barbara had a passion for travel, adventure and the Alaskan Iditarod. She filled her bucket list when she traveled to Alaska with her sister Martha and was able to observe and interact with the Iditorod dogs in person.
Barbara was also a member of Green Acres Baptist Church, where she served in the choir. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the countless individuals whose lives she touched with her kindness, talent, and boundless spirit. May her memory serve as a source of comfort and inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents John and Euralene Britt, husband Billy Wayne Andrews, sister Johnny Ruth Currier, sister Martha Linnsteadter, brother Gary Britt, son Craig Spiers and former husband Neville Dean Spiers father of all four children. Barbara is survived by brother Ralph Britt and wife Debra, nephew Jean Vance (who she considered a brother) and wife Ginger, daughter Debbi Grimes and husband Dick, son Britt Spiers and wife Michelle, daughter Holly Wixom and husband Bryan, former daughter-in-law Melinie Spiers, granddaughters, Lindsay Young, Lauren Potts, Stephanie Spiers, and Brittany German, grandson Stephen Spiers and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Rest in peace, Barbara, your legacy of love and light will forever illuminate the hearts of those who cherished you.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 6 at Tyler Memorial Park at 9:00 a.m. followed by a graveside farewell prayer at 10:00 a.m.
