Bruce was born on March 11, 1941, in Tacoma, Washington. After graduating high school, he attended Michigan State University. While a Michigan State Trooper, he was drafted into the United States Army. During his service, Bruce distinguished himself as Chief of Police at White Sands Missile Range.
After relocating to Texas, Bruce built a successful career in sales, where he was respected for his work ethic and professionalism. It was in Dallas, in 1973, that he met and married the love of his life, Linda Connor. Together, they built a life grounded in family, friendship, and shared adventure.
Bruce and Linda retired to Tyler, Texas, where they spent many happy years in a log cabin on the lake. Bruce had a lifelong fondness for cars, owning several over the years, including a 1957 Chevy, Corvette, and an El Camino. He especially enjoyed watching auto auctions on television and was well known for his uncanny ability to predict the final sale price—rarely missing the mark.
Bruce had a notable sweet tooth and rarely passed up dessert. He especially loved ice cream and was particularly fond of Linda’s cherry glacé pie, a favorite that became part of many family memories.
Travel was another great joy in Bruce’s life. From Boy Scout trips with his son to hiking adventures in Colorado with friends, he embraced the outdoors and time well spent. Bruce and Linda also cherished traveling with friends, often visiting wineries and creating lasting memories together.
After suffering a stroke in 2017, Bruce moved closer to his son and family, settling in Trophy Club, Texas, where he lived until his passing.
Bruce is survived by his only child, Brian Knutzen, his wife Andrea, and their daughter, Blakely, whom Bruce adored. He is also survived by his brother, Larry Knutzen; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda; and his brothers, Gilbert and Brian, whom his son was named after.
Bruce will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Linda, at Tyler Memorial Cemetery.
A celebration of life is being planned, with additional details to be shared at a later time.
