

Cecil was raised in Yantis and graduated from Yantis Schools in 1955. Cecil served in the US Army and achieved the rank of Corporal, and served overseas in Italy and Germany. He married Jo Carolyn Williams in 1960 and the couple had 3 children. He was mechanically skilled in the early years and worked as an auto mechanic, and then worked as a maintenance technician, rising to head of maintenance in the oil/gas industry.
In his spare time, Cecil enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and travelling overall. In later years, he restored and showed antique tractors. His family and friends will always remember him as a loving and caring father. He enjoyed time around the table with family and flashing a happy smile as he relished time together.
Cecil was actively involved in church, serving as Deacon for many years. He was chairman for Timberline Baptist Camp from 98 to 99. He also served with Smith Baptist men on many projects and traveled to various states working on many churches.
Cecil is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Avis Kerns. He is survived by his loving wife Jo, daughter Lori Nelson and husband Mike of Chandler, TX, son Mike Wyatt and wife Debbie of New Bern, NC, daughter June Melton and husband Neal of Tyler, TX, grandchildren Lauren Tompkins, Shelby Elalam, Kyle Wyatt, Wesley Melton, Jacob Melton, and 5 great grandchildren.
A visitation for Cecil will be held Thursday, December 26, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home - Cemetery & Mausoleum, 12053 State Highway 64 West, Tyler, TX 75704. A celebration of life will occur Friday, December 27, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 12:00 PM at Seymore Cemetery, Yantis, TX 75497.
