

Charles was raised on a farm in Bowie, Texas by his parents Lonnie Lee and Bertha Mae Roberts (Collins). His sister Loise “Tinker” Cain was his constant companion growing up.
Charles found love in college when he met Catherine Barbara Brown. They married and went on to seminary at Southwest Baptist Seminary. They were blessed with four daughters named Sarah, Beth, Amy and Becky. Beth, Amy and Becky followed in their mother’s footsteps and became nurses. Charles loved being a father and considered that his main calling in life. He also was a Pastor and Associate Pastor in many Southern Baptist churches in Ohio.
The pinnacle of his career was at First Baptist Church of Sheffield Lake where he had the privilege of being the principal of the Sheffield Christian Academy and Director of the church daycare. Many of his lifelong friends developed from his ministry. Charles lost his beloved wife, Barbara in 1981.
Charles restarted his life at Trinity Baptist Church in Port Arthur, Texas. After a decade in ministry at Trinity, he met Margaret Ethel Grantham. They married and shared seven children between the two of them. Charles new adult children were Margie, Diane, David and Cynthia. They established their home and grew their love in Groves, Texas.
The last part of their life together was at a beautiful retirement community named Lakeline Oaks. When Margaret passed away in April 2020, Charles migrated to Tyler, Texas to be spoiled for the next three months by his daughter Amy Roberts. Charles was able to enjoy his last Father’s Day on earth with his daughters Beth and Amy. In his last days, he enjoyed reading “Heaven is for Real” outside in his rocking chair and described that he looks forward to being there one day to enjoy more civility and peace. On July 16, 2020 he entered heaven and joined Barbara and Margaret and his daughters Sarah, Becky, Diane.
Charles is survived by his children: Beth Eide (Jim) of Kansas City, Missouri; Amy Roberts of Tyler, Texas; Margie Adams (John) of Shalimar, Florida; David Grantham (Sharon) of Burkeville, Texas; and Cynthia “Sam” Trahan (Mike) of Cedar Park, Texas. Charles is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
