Charles Wayne Wright was born December 30, 1940 to Marshall and Viola Wright in Jacksonville, Texas. He went to school in Bullard then went to Swan until he moved to Whithouse where he lettered in basketball before he graduated.
He began working after high school at GE, then Kelly Springfield. He then went into sales and management for the remainder of his working career.
Charles was a deacon at Antioch Baptist Church. He was well known for the delicious turkeys he smoked for large family gatherings. He also enjoyed watching all his children, and later, grandchildren, playing ball (and was their biggest fan) and attending their band concerts or whatever event they were involved in at the time.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marshall Wright, his mother, Viola Cook Wright, his brother, M.V. Wright and four infant children.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Alice Davis Wright, his sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Lisa Wright, Steve and Jana Wright and daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Terry Gilbert; grandchildren, Hannah Gilbert, Jarah Wright, Rebecca Wright, granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Hayleigh and Garrett Wilmon, Samuel Wright, Jeffrey Wright, Kathryn Wright and Heather Gilbert. His foster son is Scooter Dorsey. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Martha and David O’Dell and uncle and aunt, Burl and Joy Wright; aunts, Merle Maji and Nina Wright and many cousins.
He was eagerly anticipating the birth of his first great-grandchild in June.
Also, he is survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, Patsy and Bill Bohannan, David Terrell, Sue and Richard Grandi, Norman and Mary Davis, David and Glenda Davis, Nancy and Paul Johnson, Thomas and Joyce Davis, Karen and David Hiett and Dinah and Wendell Webb along with many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 PM, Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home, 12053 State Highway 64 West, Tyler. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00PM also at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Tyler Memorial Cemetery.
