

Dixie Anita Lofton, age 79, of Tyler, went to be with her Lord in the late afternoon hours of Saturday, October 22, 2011 at the Heights Nursing Home in Tyler, after a lengthy illness. She was born on November 8, 1931 in Tyler to Walter and Ruby Durham Adams, they preceded her in death. Mrs. Lofton worked for many years at the Selig Manufacturing Company and the St. Francis Medical Center, both in Monroe, LA. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and was famous for her homemade buttermilk biscuits. Also, she had a talent and love for ironing that started when she was a small girl. Her family was more than happy to let her use her expertise. She attended Vanderbilt Baptist Church in Tyler, and loved attending Sunday school and church, reading her Bible, and spending time with her family. Mrs. Lofton was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and friend, and loved by everyone who knew her.
Mrs. Lofton is survived by her children Bill Lofton, of Tulsa, OK, Rick Lofton, on Bossier City, LA, Jimmy Lofton, and wife Melinda, of Huntington, TX, Dixie Gwin Marlin, and husband Dave, of Chandler, and Jay Lofton, and wife Teresa, of Monroe, LA. She was especially proud of her nine grandchildren, John Lofton, Scott Lofton, Chris Lofton, Rob Lofton, Erica Davidson, Ethan Lofton, Cody Lofton, Taylor Lofton, Kaci Lynn Lofton, and her eleven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lofton is survived by four sisters, Mary Creech, Bobbie Petrie, Peggy Malone, and Shelia Gage, and husband Bill, all of Tyler. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Melvin Lofton, one brother, W.T. Adams, and by her friend, Dale Robinson.
Services for Mrs. Dixie Lofton will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at the Tyler Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. David Merritt officiating. Burial will follow at Tyler Memorial Cemetery with Denny Humphrey, Mark Humphrey, Clint Gage, Darrin Gage, Scott Creech, and Lex Gage serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M., Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
