Ida Rachel Drayer passed away quietly the evening of April 12 in Tyler Texas. Grandma Ida, as we all knew her, was born in a village near Kiev, Russia, in 1911, and immigrated to the United States with her Mother and father when she was one year old. She became a naturalized citizen in 1941. Ida grew up in Memphis Tennessee with her parents, and five siblings, all now passed on. They were a close and loving family. She married Isadore Drayer in 1932, and they were constant companions for more than 60 years, working together in the retail shoe business primarily in Little Rock, Arkansas, and Beaumont, Texas.
They had three sons—Jerry and wife Kellyn of Longview, Larry and wife Anna of Austin, and Phillip and wife Karen of Dallas. She dearly loved all her grandchildren—Jay Drayer and wife Terry, Dan Drayer and wife Juli, Laurie Brown and Husband David, David Drayer, Eric Drayer, Kelly Murray and wife Stacy, Brian Murray and wife Amber, Rachel Drayer, Michelle Drayer, and Aaron Drayer. And her Greatgrandchildren Kendyl Drayer, Jordan Drayer, Chase Drayer, Sarah Brown, Hannah Brown, Aaron Brown, Brooke Murray and Ashley Murray.
Ida and Izzie moved to Tyler in 1984, and for the past seven years Ida was a resident of Rosewood Estates. She counted her friends there as important family members as well.
Ida and Izzie Drayer were in the transition generation between their brave parents who escaped a land of oppression, starting a new life in the USA, and all their children and grandchildren, for whom they imparted their values, including the importance of responsibility, the policy of total honesty, and the value of education.
A family graveside service, led by Rabbi Neal Katz, will be held Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Tyler Memorial Park in Tyler Texas.
Arrangements under the direction of Tyler Memorial Funeral Home - Cemetery and Mausoleum, Tyler, TX.
