Our beautiful brother John Joseph Maddux overcame much in his life, from making a premature debut in this world to serving his country bravely as a Marine in an unpopular war waged in a conflicted country. Despite all the, he remained an incredibly gentle and kind soul.
John listened deeply, spoke with humor and great personal humility. Because of that he has a rare gift of entering a room of full strangers and leaving a room full of new friends. Well-read, a fan of every old movie you could name and with a memory for historical events, one could always have a discussion with him that unearthed some fact that you were unaware of until then.
He was funny as hell, was never 'too grown up' to be silly with his sisters and loved the innocence of the slapstick with an unending supply of classic quotes from the Three Stooges, Mad Magazine and Bugs Bunny cartoons.
He was intensely loyal to his friends, protective of his sisters and was the quiet bedrock that was always there for us. If he could give it and we needed it, he gave it. He was an exceptional human, a very good brother who loved his family and in return was deeply loved.
We celebrate his life today, hold our stories and remembrances dear and will probably never stop missing him.
John is preceded in death by his parents and sister Holly.
He is survived by Meg Maddux Carlson, Buffy Maddux Hall and Mary Maddux.
