

Melvin James Love was born November 25, 1934 in Ben Wheeler, of Van Zandt County, to the late Mr. Oscar Thomas Love and Mrs. Gertrude Washington Love. Melvin attended Prairie Creek School, and as he got older he spent most of his career as a truck driver. Driving for Loggin Meat Co., Tyler Fruits & Vegetables, and Brookshire Grocery Company; where he received an award for 20 years of loyal dedicated service. He also worked for Tyler Pipe. Later in life Melvin Love joined Tyler First UMC in the year of 2002, where he was a faithful and dedicated member.
Melvin had the joy of raising two children; Mrs. Patricia Wood Head (Grandson ¬– Jason Head) and Kaleem-Ullah Abdullah. He later married his sweetheart Clara Gilbert - Love on February 14, 2014, to this union he gained four daughters and one son.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and one sister Mrs. Johnnie Love. Melvin Love departed this life on Sunday July 23, 2017 in his home under the care of Hospice Plus & family.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: His loving wife and Pastor Clara Gilbert-Love of Tyler., two sisters: Ruthie Jimmerson of Atlanta, Georgia., and Virginia “Edna” Sands of Dallas, two brothers: T. O. Love of Dallas, and Vernon Love of Henderson, two sons: Kaleem-Ullah Abdullah of Tyler, and Vincent Thornton (Jackie) of Bryan, five daughters: Patricia Wood Head (Jimmy) of Tyler, Regina Burns (Louis) of Tyler, Carolyn Simmons (Burl) of Dallas, Lisa McKee (Robert) of Brooklyn, Minnesota, and Juanita Christian (Keith) of Bryan,. Other love ones include twenty-two grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
