Ramona Laverne Grant Boyd

Mona was born August 2, 1951, to parents Angelina Gates and Fermin Abeyta in Trinidad, CO. After graduating from Palmer High School in Colorado Springs, she went on to receive her Bachelor’s from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville and her Masters from University of Texas at Tyler.

After graduating with a degree in Social Work, Mona spent her career advocating for the geriatric and special needs community .

In 2011, Mona retired after more than 20 years of service supporting the State of Texas Department of Health and Human Services. She dedicated her time supporting her church, Helping Hands and Habitat for Humanity projects, enjoyed traveling, and loved spending time with her family and dogs.

Mona was predeceased by her brothers Ben Gates, David Abeyta, and Dennis James; and parents Angelina James (Gates) and Fermin Abeyta. She is survived by her husband, Lewis Boyd; son Aaron Scrimager, grandchild Jett; step-daughter Kathleen Dollins and her husband Rhett Dollins, grandchildren Charlotte and Mark; step-son Steven Boyd and his wife Kelsey Boyd, grandchildren Sunday and Wesley; step-daughter Rebecca Mooney and her husband Arthur, grandchildren Kerstin, David, Lily, Nora, Evan and Adam; Sisters Evangeline Roussin, Charlene Martinez and Cynthia Lane; Brother Gerald Abeyta and many fondly loved nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, September 19th at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church Kilgore, 501 E North St, Kilgore, TX 75662. Private burial services will be held at a later time.
