Robert was born in Falfurrias, Texas on June 25, 1949, to Fred and Mary Vinson and grew up in Natchez, Mississippi. His childhood was full of adventure and mischief with his cousins and friends. He later joined the U.S. Army and was promoted to captain. Once discharged he pursued a Master's degree in counseling through Southeastern Louisiana University and worked as a chemical dependency counselor until his retirement. He married the love of his life, Debbie Vinson, on October 10, 2002, and resided in East Texas for the last 24 years. In his later years, Robert continued to practice his passion for cooking and grilling and sharing meals with family. He is known as an extraordinary cook, especially his signature gumbo that he always prepared at Christmastime. Robert's love for food is unmatched and he frequently invited others to go dine and try a new restaurant. He was Grandpa Robert or Papa to his grandchildren, and he adored watching them grow up. He loved his dogs, and they lived their best life with endless treats and leftover homecooked meals. They returned the affection with fierce loyalty and were by his side until the end. Robert enjoyed playing military strategy games, watching LSU play football and having a cup of coffee at any time of day. He also enjoyed painting, fishing, and watching movies. Robert's strength and perseverance through many challenges and setbacks was from none other than his personal savior, Jesus. He was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church.
