

Graveside services to celebrate the life of Tina Anderson, 88, are scheduled for 10am, Wed. Aug. 17, at Tyler Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Tyler Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Doug Baker officiating. Tina died Aug 14 at Home Place in Tyler, TX.
The beloved wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and friend was born June 21, 1923 in Memphis, TN. She was the oldest child of Dr. James B. & Valentine Mortreux Stanford. She attended Miss Hutchison Girl School, where she was Salutatorian, and Bryn Mawr University in Pennsylvania.
After meeting her husband, Andy Anderson, Army Air Corps, during W.W. II, they were married in Memphis in March 1944. After raising 4 children in Dallas for 5 years, while Andy flew for Braniff Airways, they moved to the country in Grapevine, Tx. They and 2 additionally born children lived, played and were schooled there for the next 25 years. Approaching Andy’s retirement, they decided to retire to a new home in Tyler, where they lived happily for 35 years. They were avid golfers and members of Hollytree Country Club.
Besides all the responsibilities of raising her children, 4 girls and 2 boys, Tina had a passion for handicrafts, sewing, quilting, needlework and painting. She made most of the clothes for all the children, as well as for herself and also made some of their coats, purses and hats, often with doll clothes to match. She also found time to volunteer her knowledge of basket weaving and copper-tooling by teaching classes for the Grapevine Community. She was a member of and taught Sunday School classes for First Methodist Church of Grapevine. She also was a founding member of the “36 Club” as well as the “Tuesday Study Club”.
Survivors include daughters Andrea Burford of Tyler; Marilyn Carper and husband Jim of Wichita Falls; Cathy Simmons and husband Woody of Bastrop; and Patrice Ward and husband Terry of Newnan, GA; sons Jim Anderson and wife Shirley of Tyler; and Steve Anderson and wife Kath of Ngatimoti, New Zealand; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished.
If desired, memorials may be made to Holt House, 709 S. Bois D Arc Ave., Tyler or Historic Aviation Memorial Museum, 150 Airport Dr., Tyler. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening at Tyler Memorial funeral home, Tyler, TX from 5-7 pm.
