Eugene Deshefy

Uncasville CT. - Eugene Ernest Deshefy, 92, passed away on Tuesday. Born in Norwich, the eldest of 6 children to the late Eugene J. Deshefy and Mary (Molnar) Deshefy. The husband of Barbara (Retoske) Deshefy and married for 65 years.

Graduated from NFA in 1941. Specially trained for enlistment in the Navy as a Machinist’s Mate, preparing aircraft for battle, during World War II. Earned a degree in General Science from UConn using the G.I. Bill. Commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Air Force (as supply officer), stationed in England. A Material Planner at EB in Groton, retiring after 36 yrs.

Besides his wife, Gene is survived by 3 of 4 children: Scott Deshefy and wife Nancy, Drew Deshefy (predeceased) and wife Joan, Dawn Deshefy, Diane Nichols and husband George. Grandchildren: Jodi, Matthew, Alea, Sawyer, Colt and Weston. Great-grandchildren: Drew, Bree, Paityn, Lily and Ivy. Gene is survived by his siblings: Viola Roy, Beverly DeFalco (FL), Elmer Deshefy/Barbara, and James Deshefy/Dawn (CA) and 15 nieces/nephews. Predeceased by his sister Irene Brennan/Ray and Jim R.

A compassionate older brother, who watched over his siblings. A quiet man and homebody, always provided for his family. Special thanks to Harrington Court, where Gene exhibited true bravery and his gratitude. God bless you, Dad. Love from all.

A calling hour will be held at the Montville Funeral Home of Church and Allen on Saturday, December 31, 2016 from 9:30 am to 10:30 and will proceed to an 11 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Johns Church, 22 Maple Ave. Uncasville. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery in Montville.
