

She was born August 24, 1931 in Baltimore, MD, the daughter of the late Carl and Hazel (Carrick) Akehurst.
She married the late Robert E. Shanahan Jr. September 16, 1950 in Baltimore, MD. He passed away December 10, 1999.
She had worked as a commission clerk for the Bureau of Business Practice for 32 years. She was a former Columbiette for Council 125. She was a fan of UCONN women’s basketball, Baltimore Oriole’s baseball and an avid bowler.
She is survived by her children Robert Shanahan III and wife Leah, Michael Shanahan and wife Dorothea, Linda Podos and husband Brandon, Theresa Younger and husband Robert, Timothy Shanahan and wife Donna, and daughter in law Kathleen Shanahan. Grandchildren Bryan Shanahan, Megan Brown, Matthew and Marcus Younger, Brendan Shanahan, Briana Vincent, Rachel Podos, Rebecca Wiley, and by her great grandchildren Madeline Shanahan, Liam Shanahan, Asher and Anya Wiley, Samantha and Alexandra Vincent, Owen and Mackenzie Shanahan.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son Patrick Shanahan ,her sister Rosalyn Day and brother Tilden Akehurst.
The family would like to thank VNA of SECT, the Center for Hospice Care and Rachel from Companions and Homemakers for their compassionate care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Johns Church, 22 Maple Ave. in Montville on August 21, 2021 at 11 am, meeting directly at the Church. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery in Montville.
