Shirlie Rogers Gula

She had been a resident there for over 6 years, fighting a long and courageous battle with Alzheimers’s disease.

She was born Oct. 13, 1920 in Conway, Mass., daughter of Raymond C. and Ruby Ladd Rogers. The family moved to Scotland, Conn. in 1922.

She was a graduate of Scotland Elementary School and Windham High in 1937. Being a part of the greatest generation, she worked at Pratt& Whitney during WWII. She was last employed as a bookkeeper for Ideal Tire Co. in Willimantic.

She married Michael F. Gula at St. John’s Rectory Oct. 4, 1952. He predeceased her July 24, 1989.

She is survived by five children, Katherine A. Gula, of Manchester, Jean M. Gula and her husband Dean Gibson of East Hartford, Ann M. Coggeshall and her partner Tom of Uncasville, Michael R. Gula and his wife Susan of Niantic and Gary N. Gula of Uncasville.

Shirlie leaves two grandchildren, Sarah Melanson of Maine and Jeffrey Coggeshall of New London, two great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Amelia of Maine.

She is also survived by her brother R. Neal Rogers and his wife Catherine of Columbia and her sister Grace Burdick of Hampton.

Shirlie was predeceased by her sisters Helen McKenna and Edith Abell.

Family and friends may visit the Montville Funeral Home of Church and Allen, 53 Norwich New London Tpke., Uncasville on Wednesday from 10:00 am. until the time of the Funeral Home Service at 11:00 am. Burial will immediately follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Norwich.
