Agnes is predeceased by her beloved husband, Raymond E. Mortimer. She was the loving mother to Raymond Mortimer, Jr. and his predeceased wife Celina Meurer, Mary Rose Foster and husband Frederick, Scott Mortimer and fiancée Tina Phan, Kimberly Dowling and husband Glenn, Ann Carpenter and husband Robert, Maureen Waker and husband Mark. She was the adored grandmother to Melissa Dowling, Christina Buehler (Matthew), Sean Dowling (Nikki), Frederick Foster, Jr., Deborah Dowling, Derrick Foster (Brooke), Veronica Minier (Troy), Sherice Meurer Ruiz (Carlos), Erin Waker, Kristin Carpenter, Duncan Waker, Molly Waker; and 12 great grandchildren.
Agnes came from a large family and always knew she wanted one of her own. She was the youngest of nine children to William and Helen Mahon and became ‘Aunt Ag’ to many nieces and nephews by her teenage years. After a brief courtship with the love of her life, Raymond, they quickly built their own family of eight. In addition to caring for her family, Agnes enjoyed working at Durkee’s and later, King’s deli.
As active members of the Irvington Elks Lodge, Agnes and Raymond spent many amazing years amongst family, friends, children, and grandchildren at Elks’ events. These joyful times had always been a source of some of her fondest memories. The annual convention in Wildwood was a highlight of her year, as she loved riding the boardwalk rides and walking the parade route - especially during her time as a member and leader of the Ladies Auxiliary. She loved bingo and card games, but most importantly, Agnes was well known for her dance moves. Just as special, were the memories Agnes created with the extended Mahon family at annual picnics and Christmas parties.
Once retired, Agnes moved to Pennsylvania to live by, and eventually with, her granddaughter Christina’s family. For over a decade, she spent her days enjoying her three great grandchildren’s after school activities, traveling to new places, and living her ‘golden years’ surrounded by unconditional love and unlimited new adventures.
As her disease progressed, Agnes moved to New Jersey with her daughter Kimberly’s family. Here, she spent her time surrounded by loved ones and going down the shore, while also visiting with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Despite the challenges of her dementia, right up to the very end, Agnes was consistent in what she loved…good music, better food, and great people.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Agnes Mortimer at her viewing, Sunday, July 11th between 2:00 and 6:00 PM at McCracken Funeral Home at 1500 Morris Ave, Union, NJ 07083.
