

Charles Poppe of Union, NJ was called home to the Lord on March 3, 2022 at the age of 82. Charles was born on October 9, 1939 in Jersey City to Marie and Paul Poppe. He died at home surrounded by family after a strong battle with esophageal cancer.
Charles, who was affectionately known as “Pop” loved spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s events. He particularly enjoyed attending sporting events, taking daily walks, making trips to Dunkin Donuts, watching golf, vacationing at the Jersey Shore and participating in global trips with his wife Carol hosted by Holy Spirit Parish where he was a faithful parishioner.
Charles graduated from Holy Trinity High School and Seton Hall University. He served in the US Army and then worked as a salesperson in the tech industry. He led a life of faith and service as a Knight of Columbus in Union, a blood drive volunteer for the Red Cross in Summit and as the Helping Hands food drive coordinator for St. Joseph’s Social Center in Elizabeth. Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years Carol Ann Poppe (née Lyon), his children Suzanne Tracy and her husband Bill, Timothy Poppe and his wife Mari and Matthew Poppe, his grandchildren William, Connor, Caroline and Ellysa as well as his loyal dog Coco. He is also survived by several loving nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his sister Margaret “Peggy” and two brothers Paul and Dennis. If anyone would like to donate to a charity in his memory, the family requests donations be made to the Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains, the American Red Cross in Summit or St. Joseph Social Service Center in Elizabeth. Anyone who is able is encouraged to donate blood to the American Red Cross to help alleviate the national blood shortage.
A memorial mass for Charles will be held at a later date.
