Dolores Sumsky

Dolores was born on March 31, 1927 to Italian immigrant parents, Clemente and Angelina Crisci. Dolores was the first in her family to be born within the United States. Dolores and her two sisters, Mary and Lucy grew up in Ozone Park, NY where her father operated his business as a shoemaker. Dolores worked for several years with various businesses in NY City and at McCrory’s in Union Center where she became a fixture in town and was well loved.

Dolores married Edward Sumsky, who was a Master Sergeant with the U.S. Army serving his country in WWII and the Korean War. They were married in Germany on August 29, 1956 where Ed was stationed. During the early years of their marriage, the couple resided in Germany and Granite City, IL until Ed retired from the U.S. Army in 1963. They returned to their east coast roots, settling in Union, NJ in 1972 where Dolores continued to reside until her passing. Dolores and Ed were married for 42 years until Ed’s passing in 1998.

Dolores is survived by her son Michael Sumsky (wife Amy), daughter Angela Buonarota (husband Mauro), daughter Mary Lu Boniello (husband Joseph), granddaughter Stephanie Buonarota-Sayki, grandson Frank Buonarota (partner Kiran Bhamra), and great granddaughter Gwen Sayki.

Dolores was a devout Roman Catholic and parishioner of Holy Spirit Church in Union, NJ where she attended mass. She watched mass every day on tv and her faith was the cornerstone of her life.

The true joy in her life was the time she spent with family and friends. She cherished those moments, and those times were the most important things to her.

Keep Dolores and her family in your thoughts and prayers. The family would like to give thanks to all the caregivers, hospice and medical staff who comforted Dolores during the latter stages of her life.

A visitation for Dolores will be held Tuesday, March 26, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Ave, Union, NJ 07083.

Funeral service will occur Wednesday, March 27, 2024 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Holy Spirit Church, 971 Suburban Road, Union, NJ 07083.

Graveside service to follow Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery, 1900 Galloping Hill Road, Kenilworth, NJ 07033.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church in Dolores’ honor.
