Eleanor C. Fitzgerald of Hillside, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, following a brief illness. She was 85 years old. Her husband of forty-seven years, John, died less than twenty-four hours later. Due to the pandemic, traditional funeral services are not feasible at this time. A graveside service will take place at 11 AM on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Holy Name Cemetery, 823 Westside Avenue, in Jersey City, NJ.
Eleanor was born to the late Eduardo and Rosina Ricciardi Scala in Jersey City, NJ, and was one of eight siblings. She later moved to Hillside, NJ in 1980. Eleanor worked in family restaurants in Jersey City and later became a homemaker. She particularly enjoyed spending time with her family.
Eleanor is survived by her loving children, Christina Rose and John Anthony. She is survived by her sisters, Constance “Peggy” Scala and Anne Cintron; her brother and sister-in-law, Anthony and Arlene Scala; and her sister-in-law, Clelia Fitzgerald. Eleanor is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Eleanor was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Sabbio and Elaine Scala; sister and brother-in-law, Lola and Jerry DiGiorgio; sister, Lucy Scala; and brother, Edward “Junie” Scala.
Eleanor will be dearly missed by her loved ones. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, CSPNJ, or a charity of your choice.
