

Ines Maria Garcia, 90, of Elizabeth NJ passed away peacefully at home on March 31, 2017. Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico to Carlos Marquez and Herminia Rivera, Ines was the oldest of six children. After losing her mother at age 16, Ines helped care for her family. She finished high school and attended a business program for one year before beginning work at the Department of Labor in Puerto Rico. She met her late husband, Fernando Garcia, married and moved to the United States in 1951, settling in Elizabeth where she would reside for the remainder of her life. She began work at Grace National Bank in downtown New York that same year and continued to work until the birth of her first child in1960. Ines took several years off to raise her young children and returned to work in 1970 at Marine Midland Bank in the Wall Street area, beginning her career there as a bilingual secretary and rising through the ranks to serve as an International Banking Officer from 1982 until her retirement in 1990. Ines’ greatest love, aside from her family, was cooking. She loved hosting all of the family gatherings and always prepared a feast in her tiny kitchen. Her signature dessert was her flan, which had no equal, and which was always requested for any gathering. After retirement, Ines enjoyed traveling with family and was able to enjoy trips both abroad and within the United States. Ines was the beloved wife of the late Fernando Garcia; loving mother of Michael Garcia, Carolyn Toland and stepson Fred Garcia; adoring grandmother of Beth Toland, Ryan Toland, Matt Garcia, Eileen Garcia, the late SusanaVillarino, Steve Garcia and Pete Garcia; dear sister of Gladys Torres, Irma Betancourt, Rafaela Cardona, the late Aida Randulfe and the late Carlos Marquez, Jr. Ines is also survived by 11 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Ave, Union NJ 07083 on Tuesday April 4th from 4-8 PM. A funeral mass will take place on Wednesday April 5th at 9:30 AM at Holy Spirit Church, Union.
