

James Victor Hamm, age 82, of Upland, California passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and friends during his last days. James was born in Colusa, California to James Benedict and Elsie Bracco Hamm.
He met his wife of 60 years, Joan Wichman Hamm, at Seattle University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He then went on to graduate studies in genetics at the University of Oregon. Jim and Joan moved to California in 1967 where they raised their three children and many grandchildren.
Jim was a scratch golfer. He enjoyed playing the local courses and golfing around the world on their travels. He loved fishing, especially fly fishing which brought him peace. He coached his children’s soccer teams for 13 years. Jim loved music and dancing. He was a talented pianist. His love of music led him to ringing in three handbell choirs.
Jim was a man of faith and an active member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Joseph Church in Upland. He was a kind man, always ready to greet you with a welcoming smile to make you feel at home. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and cousin. He cherished the tradition of family gatherings and games.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife Joan; children Scot Hamm, James A Hamm and Cindy Dolby (Jason); grandchildren Scot Jr. (Julie), Shawn, Alec, Jim Jr., Thomas, Aaron, Madison, Amanda and Brandon; great grandchildren Angela and Captain; his sister Pam Macy (Bill) along with extended family and friends.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on May 30th at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Upland, CA.
