Jean grew up in Ontario, California among the acres of citrus groves and the many family members that lived in the area. She loved to play in the nearby cemetery with her friends, since it had smooth sidewalks where they could roller skate. She played the clarinet and was very active in the band at Chaffey High School and graduated in 1954. She attended Chaffey College to become a registered nurse. She worked as an emergency room MICN trauma nurse and was a mentor to many in-training EMTs and paramedics at San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland for nearly 35 years. Since she was born at that hospital, she would say that she never found her way out of the place.
She married Ron Newton in 1955 and they had a daughter, Jennifer, and divorced a couple of years later. In 1961 she married Dick DeLacy, a USFS ranger in the Mount Baldy district. Soon after, they bought a house in the Upland San Antonio Heights. She lived there until moving to Santee, California to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law in 2023.
She was very active in Girl Scouts for many years. She was a Girl Scout, and served as a camp counselor in her teens and a troop leader in adulthood. She was a former member and two-time president of the Pomona chapter of Pilot Club International, a professional women's service organization.
Jean and Dick enjoyed Payson, Arizona and its surroundings. They spent many vacation days at the house that was owned by the family. They also spent time in their trailer at Miracle Acres in Desert Hot Springs where they made a number of friends over the years.
Jean and her sister Sally, traveled to both Eastern and Western Australia a number of times in the 1990s and early 2000s. The sisters also journeyed to the Tahitian Islands where Jean had the thrill of parasailing for the first time and loved it. Northern California wine country was a favored destination too, where they had quite the exploits over numerous years.
She is survived by her sister Sally Mertz of Upland, daughter Jenne Beauvais, and son-in-law Dave Beauvais both of La Mesa.
There will be a private cremation and no services as per her wishes.
Memorial contributions may be made to the San Diego Girl Scouts Council. https://www.sdgirlscouts.org/en/support-us/donate-locally.html
