Larry's early years were spent in California, where he attended and graduated from Upland High School. It was during these formative years that Larry discovered his passion for running track.
In the spirit of service, Larry registered for the draft on April 16, 1958, and soon after, on June 25, 1959, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Serving his country with honor and dedication, Larry reached the rank of E-4 and was honorably discharged on May 23, 1963, leaving behind a legacy of duty and sacrifice. His commitment was further recognized with the award of the Good Conduct Medal on June 24, 1962.
After his military service, Larry transitioned to civilian life and embraced the blue-collar ethos as a union pipe fitter in Los Angeles Local 709. He was known for his strong work ethic, embodying the values of hard work throughout his career.
On October 10, 1961, Larry married the love of his life, Anna. Together, they embarked on a journey of love and partnership that would span over five decades. Larry and Anna were blessed with three sons, Allan, Larry Jr., and Bill, and together they built a life in Rancho Cucamonga, California.
Larry's life was not just about work; he found joy and solace in the simple pleasures of life. Whether it was riding his motorcycle through the desert or the camaraderie of hunting and fishing trips, Larry embraced the outdoors with enthusiasm. Family vacations were cherished moments, filled with camping adventures in the California Sierras and the occasional cruise.
In retirement, Larry and Anna continued their adventures, taking a memorable camping vacation to Alaska and revisiting the beloved California Sierras. These moments underscored the enduring love and companionship they shared.
Larry's dedication extended to his role as a father and grandfather, with nine grandchildren. The love and wisdom he imparted to his family will undoubtedly echo through the generations.
Tragedy struck on June 21, 2020, when Larry's beloved Anna passed away, leaving him widowed. On February 20, 2024, Larry Lee Strohm left this world, leaving behind a legacy of service, hard work, and family devotion. As we bid farewell, let us remember Larry for his strengths. May his memory be a source of inspiration and comfort.
