Acie Buster Plato McGuire

Acie Plato “ Buster” McGuire, age 86, of Valdese, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 7th 2011 at his residence and surrounded by his loving family. He was born to the late Acie Virgil McGuire and Eliza Jane Church McGuire on August 25th 1924 in Avery County. Acie was a longtime member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church. He served his country honorably during WWII in the Army. Acie will be missed.

Along with his parents, Acie was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Eliza Kathleen Lawrence McGuire; four brothers and four sisters.

Those left behind to cherish his memory include four daughters, Judy Marshall and her husband, Burel of Granite Falls, Ann Seagle and her husband, Dennis of Connelly Springs, Kathy Norman of Granite Falls, and Marsha Kuykendall of Valdese; four sons, Asa “Larry” McGuire and his wife, Kay of Monroe, VA, George “Lee” McGuire of Valdese, Steve McGuire and his fiancé, Regina Wilson of Connelly Springs, and Tim McGuire and his wife, Donna of Drexel; a sister, Joy Mitchell and her husband, Glenn of North Wilkesboro; a brother, Pat McGuire and his wife, Glenda Sue of Kernersville, 19 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

The Family would like to give special thanks to Acie’s caregivers, Marsha and Lee, and also to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Sunday, January 9th 2011 at Oak Ridge Baptist Church with Pastor Darrell Webb and Acie’s nephew, Reverend Benny Hagie officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post 234. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 1:00 P.M. to 2:30 P.M.
