

Catherine Homer “Kay” Gallagher died on Thursday, August 12, 2010 after an extended illness. Kay was born in Rhineland, Texas. She worked for the railroad during WWII on the west coast, California and Oregon. Originally she and her husband came to Asheville in 1977 and lived here until 1988, then moved to St. Augustine, Florida until 2000, when they returned to Asheville to be with family. She was very active in the Asheville Symphony, The Vetust Club and the annual antique shows in Asheville, NC and Lake Forest, Chicago. She also enjoyed golf and physical fitness. She is survived by her husband of 56 years Richard V. Gallagher. They married at the Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago, Illinois, Feb. 12, 1952. They traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Australia. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her four sons, Richard of Portland, OR, Patrick of Boston, MA, Kevin of Pittsburg, PA and Gregory of Asheville, NC. One sister-in-law Patricia Igini of Dublin, Ireland. Special memorial services will be held at a later date.
